How I got to testing
I had followed Henrike (@hillihiltrud on Instagram) for a while due to her sewing content and because i was quite interested in her jeans course for a while. When I saw that she was looking for testers for her Jeans Shorts I was more than interested in testing the shorts. Shortly before i had finished my first two pair of denim patterns and i was excited to broaden my knowledge to shorts and try put Henrike’s patterns.
Fabric Choice
I was very startled when i was first researching fabrics for this pattern. I found it rather disappointing to not find any „unusual“ denim, like fun patterned or similar. I then decided to use a white denim as i had wanted to add white denim to my wardrobe for a while. So why not start with shorts?
Originally i ordered off-white denim and a white cotton with a bordeaux-red paisley pattern from an online shop for the pattern. Unfortunately they had shipping issues and the fabric (and buttons!) did not deliver in time, as the pattern test deadline was only two weeks after test start. I then quickly went over to my local fabric store and found above shown off-white denim and a leo-print pattern that i could see using for the shorts. The buttons i unfortunately had to order from another online shop subsequently.
The pattern
I thought the pattern was very easy to sew and it was a fun little project. Nevertheless I have to say that I would have had to do a lot of pattern adjustments to make it fit – and i already did some adjustments. I felt the measurements used for the pattern were not true to size. I even let the seam allowance out as much as i could and still would not fit properly. Also the inseam was wy to short for me. Looking at the results of other testers, that didn’t seem to be a me-problem, but for of a you problem 😉
Nevertheless i think knowing this you can easily adjust that in the future to make this pattern wearable. The cut in general is really clever with more loose legs and a toght hip area.
